Witness the majestic Bornean orangutans up close. Established in 2000, this 15-acre sanctuary is dedicated to the ex-situ conservation of these endangered primates, providing them with a habitat that closely resembles their natural environment.

Accessible only by a 15-minute boat ride across Malaysia's oldest man-made lake, the journey to the island sets the tone for an immersive experience. Upon arrival, visitors traverse a 200-meter semi-circular steel-fence tunnel, allowing humans to observe orangutans roaming freely in their habitat—a reversal of the typical zoo experience.

The sanctuary is home to a growing population of orangutans, with numbers increasing from just three individuals in 2000 to 24 today. This growth underscores the success of the island's conservation efforts. Visitors can observe various behaviors such as feeding, playing and resting, gaining insights into the lives of these intelligent creatures.

Beyond observation, the island serves as a center for education and research, aiming to raise awareness about the plight of orangutans and the importance of conservation. Guided tours provide informative narratives about the species, their behaviors and the challenges they face in the wild.

A visit to Orang Utan Island not only offers an unforgettable experience but also contributes to the ongoing efforts to protect and conserve one of Malaysia's most iconic species.
