Established on October 24, 2012, the museum was the vision of Tan Sri Hew See Tong, a former tin mine owner with over four decades of experience in the industry.
The museum's exhibits provide a detailed exploration of various tin mining methods, including the traditional gravel pump technique, palong mining and edging. Visitors can view life-sized mannequins depicting miners engaged in activities such as panning for tin, operating heavy machinery and performing manual labor. The outdoor section showcases authentic equipment like gravel pumps, separators and actors, offering a tangible connection to the past.
Beyond its technical displays, the museum highlights the cultural impact of tin mining. It features exhibits on the arrival of Chinese migrant laborers, the evolution of tin prices ande industry's role in shaping Malaysia's economy. The museum also serves as a venue for events like the annual Tin Mining Festival, which celebrates the region's mining history through cultural performances and community activities.
