A heartfelt tribute to the late Yasmin Ahmad, one of Malaysia's most cherished filmmakers and storytellers. Located at 91, Jalan Sultan Yusof, this intimate museum resides in the basement of BookXcess, a former bank building that retains its original vaults, providing a unique and evocative setting for the exhibits.
The museum was established in 2014 through the collaborative efforts of Yasmin's family, friends and fans, inspired by her mother, Inom Yon, affectionately known as Mak Inom. Their vision was to preserve and celebrate Yasmin's legacy, ensuring that her work continues to inspire future generations.
Visitors to Yasmin at Kong Heng can immerse themselves in a collection that includes her personal belongings, photographs and original scripts. The exhibits showcase her acclaimed films such as Sepet, Gubra, Muallaf and Talentime, as well as her memorable advertisements created during her tenure as Executive Creative Director at Leo Burnett. The museum also features rotating exhibitions, including photography displays curated by international artists like Stanley Wong, known as anothermountainman.
In addition to the static displays, the museum has plans to develop an augmented reality experience that guides visitors through Ipoh's landmarks featured in Yasmin's films, such as the Ipoh railway station and SMK St. Michael’s Institution.
