Southeast Asia's first museum dedicated to the history of the telegraph, it stands as a testament to the nation's journey from Morse code to modern telecommunications.
Housed in a beautifully preserved colonial building constructed in 1883, the museum was originally the first Post and Telegraph Office in the Malay States. By 1885, it became the first facility in the region to offer telegraph, telephone, postal and banking services under one roof.
The museum's exhibits showcase over 50 artefacts, including an 1870s submarine cable insulated with Gutta Percha tree extract, which played a crucial role in early global communications. Visitors can also explore vintage public telephone booths, telegraph machines and other historical items that highlight the evolution of communication technology.
Located on Jalan Stesen in the heart of Taiping, the museum is easily accessible. Whether you're a history enthusiast, a student or simply curious about the past, the Telegraph Museum provides an enriching experience that connects you to Malaysia's technological advancements.
