Perak Tong Cave Temple
OPEN FOR PUBLIC. SOME AREAS MAY BE PROHIBITED.
CHARGES MAY APPLY FOR SOME AREAS OR ACTIVITIES.
Built in 1926 by Chong Sen Yee and his wife Choong Chan Yoke, immigrants from China's Jiao-Ling province, the temple has evolved over decades into one of Malaysia's most revered cave temples. Their son, Chong Yin Chat, further enhanced the temple, transforming it into an international tourist attraction.
Upon entering, visitors are greeted by a majestic 12-meter (approximately 40 feet) tall golden sitting Buddha, flanked by four guardian deities. The cavern's walls are adorned with vibrant murals and Chinese calligraphy, some of which were painted by Chong Yin Chat himself.
For those seeking a panoramic view, a climb of approximately 450 steps leads to a pavilion atop the limestone hill, offering breathtaking vistas of Ipoh and its surroundings.
Located at Jalan Kuala Kangsar, 31400 Ipoh, Perak, the temple is open daily from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Admission is free, though donations are appreciated.
Perak Tong Cave Temple offers a unique blend of natural beauty, cultural heritage and spiritual serenity, making it a must-visit destination for travelers exploring Ipoh.
