This unfinished mansion, envisioned by Scottish planter William Kellie Smith in the early 20th century, offers visitors a unique blend of history, architecture and mystery.

Construction of the castle began in 1915, intended as a grand residence that combined Moorish, Indo-Saracenic and Roman architectural styles. Smith imported bricks and marbles from India and employed skilled craftsmen to bring his dream to life. The design included plans for Malaya's first elevator, a rooftop courtyard and secret tunnels. However, the project was halted abruptly in 1926 when Smith died of pneumonia during a trip to Portugal. Following his death, the castle was left incomplete and eventually abandoned.

Today, Kellie's Castle is a popular tourist attraction, drawing visitors intrigued by its storied past and architectural grandeur. The castle's corridors and rooms, some believed to be haunted, add an element of mystery that enhances its allure. The site has been featured in films, including the 1999 Oscar-nominated “Anna and the King,” showcasing its cinematic appeal.

Open daily from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm, Kellie's Castle offers a glimpse into a bygone era, inviting exploration and reflection. Its location, approximately a two-hour drive from Kuala Lumpur and 30 minutes from Ipoh, makes it an accessible destination for both local and international travelers.
