An enduring symbol of Perak's architectural heritage in the royal town of Kuala Kangsar, Perak. Spanning the majestic Perak River, this steel arch bridge stands as a testament to early 20th-century engineering prowess and remains the longest of its kind in the country.
Constructed between 1928 and 1932 by Messrs James Craig Ltd., the bridge was officially inaugurated on 29 June 1932 by Sultan Iskandar of Perak, after whom it is named. Measuring 308 meters in length and 10.2 meters in width, the bridge was a significant infrastructural advancement of its time, replacing the flood-prone pontoon bridge at Enggor. Its seven steel arches, mounted on concrete piers, exemplify the blend of functionality and aesthetic appeal characteristic of the era's design philosophy.
Beyond its structural significance, the Iskandar Bridge holds a poignant place in history. During World War II, it was among the strategic sites affected by military actions, with events such as the bombing of its beam now commemorated to preserve the memory of Perak's wartime experiences.
