Often referred to as the "Taj Mahal of Ipoh", this iconic landmark was designed by British architect Arthur Benison Hubback and completed in 1917. The station showcases a harmonious blend of Edwardian Baroque and Indo-Saracenic architectural styles, featuring majestic domes, arched colonnades and an elegant white façade that has captivated visitors for over a century.
Beyond its architectural splendor, the station once housed the Majestic Hotel, offering travelers a luxurious retreat during the heyday of rail travel. Today, while the hotel no longer operates, the building remains a functional railway hub, seamlessly integrating modern amenities with its historical charm.
Surrounding the station is the beautifully landscaped Ipoh Station Square, a popular gathering spot for both locals and tourists. Just a short stroll away lies the Birch Memorial Clock Tower, erected in 1909 to commemorate James W. W. Birch, the first British Resident of Perak. Nearby, the Sultan Idris Shah II Mosque, completed in 1968, stands as a significant religious landmark in the city.
