Established in 1906 by a Hainanese immigrant, the Federated Malay States (FMS) Bar is recognized as Malaysia's oldest bar and restaurant. Originally a favored gathering spot for European miners and planters during the colonial era, it has been meticulously restored to preserve its rich heritage while offering a contemporary dining experience.

The restoration, led by architect Seow Wee Liam, has revitalized the establishment's colonial charm. Inside, guests are greeted by antique timber furniture, vintage ceiling fans and classic hanging lights, all contributing to an ambiance reminiscent of early 20th-century Malaya. The walls are adorned with historical photographs and rare newspaper articles from the pre-independence era, providing a visual journey through Ipoh's storied past.

Culinary offerings at Durbar at FMS pay homage to its Hainanese roots and colonial influences. Signature dishes include the traditional Hainanese Chicken Chop, Baked Stuffed Crab, Classic Chicken Mornay and Enche Kabin - a spiced Nyonya fried chicken. These recipes have been carefully preserved and are prepared by chefs experienced in traditional Hainanese cuisine, ensuring an authentic taste that resonates with both history enthusiasts and food connoisseurs.

Situated at 2, Jalan Sultan Idris Shah, directly opposite the historic Ipoh Padang, Durbar at FMS is an integral part of the Ipoh Heritage Trail. Its central location makes it an ideal stop for those exploring the architectural and cultural landmarks of the city. Whether you're a history buff, a culinary adventurer or simply seeking a unique dining atmosphere, Durbar at FMS offers an experience that bridges the past and present in the heart of Ipoh.
