Established in 1933 by Tiah Ee Mooi, it holds the distinction of being the oldest coffee mill in the country. For over nine decades, Antong has been meticulously preserving the traditional art of coffee roasting, offering visitors an immersive journey into the past.
At Antong, the coffee-making process is a captivating experience. Beans are roasted over wood-fired stoves, a method that infuses each batch with a distinctive smoky aroma and deep, robust flavor. This time-honored technique, combined with the addition of melted sugar and margarine, results in a rich, caramelized brew that has become synonymous with Malaysian kopi culture. Visitors can witness this artisanal process firsthand, gaining insight into the meticulous craftsmanship that defines Antong's legacy.
Beyond its coffee production, Antong Coffee Mill is steeped in historical significance. The mill is housed within the former residence of Chen Cuifen, a prominent figure in Chinese revolutionary history and the companion of Dr. Sun Yat-sen. The villa, known as Changchun Garden, offers a glimpse into the past with its preserved artifacts and exhibits, adding a layer of cultural depth to the visit.
For those seeking a sensory delight, Antong's tasting room presents an array of coffee blends, including their signature durian white coffee and traditional Kopi O. The on-site café provides a cozy setting to savor these unique flavors, accompanied by local delicacies like roti kok, enhancing the authentic Malaysian experience.
