Pantai Pasir Panjang is renowned for its role as a nesting ground for green turtles (Chelonia mydas) and olive ridley turtles (Lepidochelys olivacea). The beach's fine sand and minimal human disturbance create a conducive environment for these endangered species to lay their eggs. To support conservation efforts, the Malaysian Department of Fisheries established the Segari Turtle Management Centre in 1990. This facility monitors and protects turtle nests, ensuring the safe hatching and release of hatchlings into the sea.

Beyond its ecological importance, Pantai Pasir Panjang holds cultural value as a site for observing the new moon to determine the Islamic calendar months, including Ramadan and the two major Islamic festivals, Hari Raya Aidilfitri and Hari Raya Aidiladha. This practice underscores the beach's significance in the local community's spiritual life.

The beach is bordered by lush greenery, providing shade and enhancing its natural beauty.Visitors can enjoy leisurely walks along the shore, picnics and birdwatching. While swimming is possible, caution is advised due to varying seabed conditions. The absence of commercial development ensures a peaceful atmosphere, allowing guests to connect with nature.
